Theme: Insect Adventure                            

Sound: “a_e” of acorn, make, stay,same,baby, gray, eight paint, steak, lake etc.

“i_e” of ice cream: like, bike, light, smile, mice, write,shy,pie,sky

 

Writing:

Personal writing time in journals using known sounds and theme words of the month.

 

Daily 5 (ateliers)

 

Writing strategies: Writing complete stories with all elements (beginning, middle, end, problem, solution). Writing complete sentences (who-does-what). The five Ws (Who, What, Where, When , Why + How) when writing a story. Use toolbox  or dictionary as a reference to find difficult words to spell.

 

 

Modeled writing:Writing their own Insect story - a day in an insect life (introduction, problem, solution, happy ending)

 

Independent and shared writing: read stories out loud and brainstorming in groups (how will you organise your ideas). Write an insect story independently.

 

 

Reading

 

Review of reading strategies: Eagle eye (check the pictures), Questioning koala (ask yourself questions), Moe the moose (check for understanding), Mindy the mouse (make a movie in your mind) and Ella the elephant ( the story elements: characters, problem, solution etc.). Tune in turtle (tune into interesting words), Mark the Shark (pay attention to punctuation).In addition , Iggy the Iguana (make inferences).
